Just about six days after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) recovered 17 exotic cars from a warehouse reportedly owned by Abdullahi Dikko Inde, former comptroller-general of the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS), another set of vehicles, tricycles and motorcycles, have been reportedly seized from him. Some of the exotic cars earlier seized from the ex-customs boss The Nation reports that the second recovery was made between Monday, February 27 and Tuesday, February 28 in another warehouse allegedly belonging to the former customs boss. The fresh items include a 2013 model 32-seater Nissan bus, 42 cargo tricycles, one tipper truck, 16 motorcycles, over 500 rug carpets and two fire-proof safes.  Nigerian musician, Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Face, on Monday, February 27th, presented a cheque of N3.5million to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Lagos Speaking at the presentation, the musician said that he was particularly touched when he visited camps of the Internally Displaced Persons(IDPs) in the North-East. He called on other well-meaning Nigerians to come all out and support the International organisation in its effort at protecting the millions of Nigerians in the various camps. "The conditions I met the internally displaced persons, when I visited their various camps were terrible. They were really terrible," he said.  "The 2Face Foundation has, therefore, decided to enter into partnership with the UNHCR to see how we can help put smiles on the faces of these persons. My foundation is today presenting this cheque to the UNHCR to support it in its operations of alleviating the sufferings of these IDPs," he added.

The Department of State Service, who obtained a search warrant to search Dunes Investment and Global Properties Ltd, located at No 44 Aguiyi Ironsi Way, Maitama-Abuja, on the 24th of February, has recovered some properties allegedly owned by former Benue State Governor, Gabriel Suswam. Prince Wolubah, a 7th grade teacher in KONIA Garbo school, Konia Town area of Liberia, shocked everyone this morning as he killed the boyfriend of one of his students. Though the reason for this wasn’t given, but according to Emmanuel who shared the story on Facebook, the deceased was the breadwinner of his family.

After killing his ex-wife’s husband, Ashimiyu Ademola last week, 43-year-old man, Adebisi Akinrinmola, at Ajebo village, Ijebu-Igbo area of Ogun State, has begged that he should not be sentenced to death, saying the devil made him do it. Akinrinmola, a cocoa farmer, who hails from Ode-Oka in Ondo State, told journalists that he was married to his former wife for nine years, but that the union produced no child, explaining that he killed her husband “because he chased me with cutlass when we were quarrelling and I have to defend myself.”  His words: “When we were quarrelling, he squeezed my cloth at my neck and I managed to escape from him. He now started chasing me with a cutlass. I ran inside my house, took a gun and shot him. It is the work of the devil. “The government should have mercy on me by not sentencing me to death, but send me to jail.”

In another act of jungle justice, a mob this morning burnt to death a suspected car battery thief at Yellow Duke street in Calabar, Cross Rivers state. A Boeing 737 aircraft belonging to Air Peace on Monday suffered a burst tyre while preparing for take-off at the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos. The incident occurred at about 11am forcing the pilot to abort the flight. The aircraft was to convey 105 passengers from Lagos to Abuja. The airline’s spokesman, Mr Christian Iwarah who confirmed the incident, said no serious damage was done to the aircraft and no passenger was injured. He said: “The incident happened around 11am as the aircraft was about to take off. The pilot immediately turned around and the passengers were disembarked. “Another aircraft was provided for them and I can confirm to you that they arrived in Abuja safely a few hours ago.” Reacting to the incident, the General Manager, Public Relations, Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, Mr Sam Adurogboye, said he was yet to confirm if the incident had been filed with the regulatory authority. Mr Tairu Quadri, whose two arms were amputated after an explosion during an official assignment as a former staff member of the defunct PHCN on Monday threatened to commit suicide over neglect and unpaid compensation. Quadri, who is married with two children, said in Lagos that since the incident occurred in 2008, he had been living a hopeless life. He appealed to the Ikeja Electric (IE) to urgently come to his assistance in procuring and maintaining his prosthesis, permanent accommodation and compensation for the damage. Many lives were put at risk after a Dangote truck carrying cement lost control and rammed into two cars killing one person in Magodo area of Lagos state. It is believed the car suffered brake failure resulting in the tragedy. Cars were damaged in the accident and many people were also injured. Sahara Reporters is reporting that at least one person has been killed and two others abducted by unknown gunmen in the northern part of Nigeria. According to the report, the attack occurred on the Kaduna-Abuja Road on Wednesday, February 22. A local hunter was killed and two German nationals were abducted by the gunmen.

The Nigerian Army has denied the widely circulated news that dare-devil kidnappers abducted a lieutenant in the Nigerian Army in Abule Ado area of FESTAC town, Lagos state in the evening of Monday, February 20. The Nigerian Army says a soldier widely reported to have been kidnapped in Lagos only got missing in action (MIA) during an ambush. Lt.-Col. Olaolu Daudu, spokesman of the 81 Division, made the clarification in a statement in Lagos.a Daudu said: “The officer got missing in action when troops came under heavy ambush during routine patrol of Lagos creeks. “I will like to state that no officer was kidnapped. “However, while on routine patrol of the creeks around Abule-Ado, Festac Town area in Lagos, troops came under heavy gunfire in an ambush. “They were able to fight their way out of the ambush during which the said officer got missing-in-action (MIA). “Efforts are ongoing in search of the missing personnel. “Troops remain resilient and focused in search of their MIA colleague.’’

ONE hundred and seventy-one Nigerian returnees from Libya yesterday arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, recounting their ordeal.. The returnees were received by Special Adviser to the President on Diaspora and Foreign Affairs Mrs. Abike Dabiri- Erewa, who cautioned Nigerians to desist from dangerous search for greener in Libya. She said yesterday’s number of 171 brings to over 1,000 returnees, who have been brought home from Libya in the last two years. The returnees were 112 women, 49 men and five infants. No fewer than 15 students of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), in Imo, were arrested following violent protests in the institution on Friday, last week. The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, Mr Andrew Enwerem, who confirmed the arrest in Owerri on Monday, said that the students were arrested for vandalism and looting of the university property. Enwerem said that the students would be charged to court when investigations into the incident had been concluded. He dismissed claims by the students that the protest turned violent when policemen allegedly fired teargas at them. He said the police intervened at the instance of the school management when the protest degenerated into violence. The students embarked on the protest over alleged increase in their school fees. A father of nine, Adekunle Adewusi, yesterday, appeared in an Ebute Meta chief magistrate’s court for allegedly disposing of his child’s remains inside a canal. The prosecutor, Sergeant Kehinde Omisakin, told the court that the 49-year-old man, who lives at Folorunaho Kuku Street, Opebi, Ikeja, committed the offences on February 7, at about 10p.m. Omisakin said that the corpse of the four-year-old girl was found inside a canal close to the residence of the accused. According to Omisakin, “the accused, in his statement, claimed that the deceased was pushed onto a sharp object by her playmates and because the wound was not properly treated, it developed into a big issue. “Instead of taking the child to the hospital, he decided to treat her at home, which eventually led to her death. Instead of depositing the remains at the mortuary, the accused dumped her body inside a canal close to his residence. Lecturers at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso have suspended their eight months old strike. Dr Biodun Olaniran, Chairman, LAUTECH chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), announced the suspension of the strike in a statement on Wednesday in Ogbomoso. ASUU said that the strike was suspended following the union’s congress held on Tuesday at the university. “After comparing the demands of the union and what the management has met out of the demands, and after extensive deliberations on the struggle so far, the union has resolved to suspend the strike immediately,” Olaniran said. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the institution had been shut since the lecturers went on strike eight months ago. The union had embarked on the strike over unpaid salaries and allowances, as well as the failure of the owner states of Oyo and Osun to release subventions to the institution. A married man in Jalingo area of Taraba, Cosmas Yuguda, has recounted how burglars who burgled his home were preached to by him. Mr Cosmas Yuguda According to his Facebook post, Mr Yuguda said he was at work on February 14 when his house was burgled by young men. They carted away a Bible, two laptops, three decoders, UPS, stabilizer, LG DVD hand set, soaps, detergent, 3 packets of Maggi cubes, a set of clipper, cream, and other smaller items. The thieves were later caught and taken to the police station. Some of the stolen items Mr Yuguda went on to intimate his Facebook friends that after the thieves were caught, he preached to them and forgave them.
